The MEGA Annual Book Sale!

Books!
Ludlow Assembly Rooms Fundraising Events (LARFE) are holding their Annual Mega Book Sale THIS WEEKEND, 10am – 4pm.

More Books!
All day lots of volunteers have come together to set up the event. They've been busy lifting, unpacking, categorising, and now the Auditorium is looking fit for purpose!

As always, there will be plenty of great bargains to be found among the thousands of books and DVDs that have been kindly donated to us over the last week. As you can see from the photos, we are completely stocked up full of goodies, and there are lots of hidden treasures just waiting to be found!

Entrance is only 50 pence (or £5 before 11am on Sat) and every penny raised from the book sale is vital to keep the Assembly Rooms ticking along. We love and appreciate the support that we receive and a big THANK YOU goes out to LARFE, all the volunteers and we look forward to seeing lots of you there this weekend!

Little Monsters Film Club

On Monday 30 March we saw another Little Monsters event held at the Rockspring Community Centre.

This time the event themed perfectly with Easter, with a special showing of Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit. The story follows the popular Aardman animation duo, who have set up their own humane pest control business "Anti Pesto" to protect the neighbourhood's prized vegetables in the lead up to the Giant Vegetable Competition. Wallace and Gomit are praised for their handy inventions, until something goes wrong...

After the film the children engaged in some fun arts and crafts, cheerfully sticking, painting and drawing some of their favourite characters and scenes from the film.

This is the last of the current series of Little Monsters Film Club, but keep an eye out for these events in the near future. In the meantime why not check out our Easter holiday activities here!

Story-Telling Magic and a Box of Delights!

The latest Little Monsters' Film Club took place this weekend just gone, with everyone coming up to Ludlow Assembly Rooms for a fun-filled afternoon of story-telling, sweets and movies!

Fun with a parachute!

The day started with a free story-telling workshop with Story Space's Carol Graham. To settle the 'little monsters', she started with some fun parachute games. Everyone got involved (including one or two of the grown-ups!)

You could hear a pin drop!

With everyone settled down, Carol got the kids to sit close together and told them some wonderful, imaginative stories.

Afterwards, they set about producing their own arts and crafts creations. These included drawings, puppets, wands and flowers - the kids really had the chance to show off their artistic flair!

After the workshop, everyone had a quick break for some juice and sweets before heading through to the main cinema to watch A Box Of Delights - a series of award-winning short animations.

The next (and final) Little Monsters Film Club will take place on Tuesday 17 February (during half term) at Ludlow Assembly Rooms.

There will be a free language workshop run by Shrewsbury's Bright Owls and the film will be Studio Ghibli's outstanding animation, Ponyo.

Little Monsters Film Club Success!

The children have a bash at some instruments!
Last Saturday it was the debut of our new Little Monsters Film Club season, kick starting the event at Rockspring Community Centre.

First off the families were able to enjoy a free workshop called Whack It Smack It, which gave children an insight into how they can recycle objects for a musical use! The children were able to have a bash on pre-made instruments, join together to make simple rythyms and melodies, as well as a chance to make some instruments of their own!

Conducting "Twinkle Twinkle" using old plastic!

Now it's the children's turn to make some instruments!

It was a great workshop for all the family, as adults and children came together to make some craft and to learn something a bit different!

Who would have thought an old piece of string and a yoghurt pot could make the sound of a chicken? Or a lollipop stick tied to some thread would make a fascinating whirring noise?

And they're looking proud of their creations!

Snacks and treats at hand, all the families then sat down to watch Fairy Tale: A True Story (U), as picked by a panel of children only a few weeks back. It was a fantastic turn out, and all the children really enjoyed taking part in the workshop, the chance to make noise without being told to be quiet and most importantly, watching a great film!

In our recent surveys, you said you wanted more activities and events for children, and here at Ludlow Assembly Rooms we are proud to be able to bring this film club to you! A brilliant opportunity for families and communities to come together and watch some films!

Back in September you might remember the announcement of Ludlow Assembly Rooms' take over of the VIC which now locates itself in the building on Level 3.

Well last Friday we welcomed special guests Mayor Cllr Paul Draper and local MP Philip Dunne who had the honour of cutting the ribbon to the official re-opening of the VIC!
